High-frequency oscillation device.
Inside, a steel ball generates vibratory effects associated with positive expiratory pressure (PEP) when exhaling orally. This mobilizes and releases mucus, promoting its elimination. It improves lung function, reducing dyspnea and respiratory fatigue.
Description
Indications:
A device used to promote the mobilization and release of bronchial and pulmonary secretions (mucus), facilitating their elimination. It can be used for various respiratory conditions, such as:
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma, and emphysema.
- Acute problems involving increased bronchial or pulmonary mucus.
Features:
- Effective and easy to use.
- Portable device that can be used anywhere.
- Body, cone, cap, and mouthpiece made of injected polyamide.
- Internal nickel-plated steel ball.
- Color: blue.
- Its effectiveness has been demonstrated and is primarily based on two phenomena:
a) High-Frequency Oscillation. This causes changes in the rheological properties of mucus, including a decrease in its viscosity and elasticity. This leads to an increase in secretion clearance.
b) Positive Expiratory Pressure (PEP). Prolonging exhalation can mobilize mucus proximally. Furthermore, the increased pressure transmitted to the airways prevents their premature collapse during exhalation.
Instructions for Use:
Its use is very simple: inhale (take air in) through the nose and exhale (breathe out) gently and continuously. Repeating several inspiration-expiration cycles promotes mucus mobilization at the pulmonary and bronchial levels.
The procedure to follow is as follows:
- Clear mucus and nasal secretions before beginning exercise with the Shaker.
- Sit or lie down (initially, and until accustomed to the exercise, it is not advisable to perform the exercise standing, as hyperventilation may cause a sensation of dizziness).
- Insert the mouthpiece into your mouth so that your lips fully seal around it to prevent air ‘leaks’. Ensure the mouthpiece is in a horizontal position for proper function and benefits.
- Inhale (take air in) through the nose and exhale (breathe out) through the mouth and the Shaker gently and continuously; do not exhale forcefully or rapidly. If your nasal passages are not clear, you may inhale through your mouth after temporarily removing the Shaker.
- After every 5-7 breathing cycles through the Shaker, cough gently and expel secretions periodically or as needed.
- An appropriate usage guideline for the Shaker Classic would involve the following exercise mode (unless otherwise instructed by a healthcare professional):
- Perform 5-7 exhalations through the Shaker Classic.
- Then, remove the device and cough a couple of times to mobilize mucus.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 until a total exercise time of 7-10 minutes is completed.
- Perform at least 2 daily sessions as outlined in the previous steps.
